Parco Genetico del Friuli Venezia Giulia - Genetic Park of Friuli Venezia Giulia Region

2008 - 2012

The main objective of the project is to building a Regional Biobank of genetici material accompanied by clinical, historical, environmental and biological data to assist in the identification of the main causes of multifactorial diseases and gene-environment relationships.

The project "Genetic Park of Friuli Venezia Giulia", is co-funded by Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia and promoted by CBM, AREA Science Park, Liver Research Center, IRCCS Burlo Garofolo, University of Trieste and University of Udine.

The towns involved are Sauris, Clauzetto, San Martino del Carso, Resia, Erto e Casso and each presents the salient features of anthropological, historical, cultural and demographic. These populations are therefore one of the most effective means for the identification of genes responsible for complex diseases (hypertension, obesity, diabetes, etc.), whereas the study of genetic and environmental factors that determine susceptibility to these diseases is also facilitated since the environmental component (such as climate and diet) is much more homogeneous and remained so for centuries.
