Optical Imaging

Optical Imaging

The Optical Imaging laboratory, set up in cooperation with Bracco Imaging S.p.A., is equipped for:

  • Optical images acquisition and analysis (cells, organs, small animals);
  • Labelling of vectors (drugs, antibodies, peptides, etc) with fluorescent probes;
  • Cell culture;
  • Animal housing.

The instruments present within the laboratory allow for the visualization of molecular and cellular processes both in vitro and in vivo, supporting basic research as well as pre-clinical applications.

The in vivo experiments are performed on small animals and the procedures are designed in compliance with the guidelines of the European (86/609/EEC) and the Italian (D.L.116/92) laws and approved by the Italian Ministry.

In example, the lab has experience in tumours (lymphoma, melanoma, ovarian carcinoma), rheumatoid arthritis and antiphospholipid syndrome animal models.

The experiments can be designed to evaluate the physiology, the pattern and the response to drug treatment and this technology supports basic research as well as pre-clinical applications.

The laboratory, therefore, is a resource both for a detailed understanding of biological and pathological events within the organism, and for the development of new targeted therapeutic approaches at the molecular level.

Explore Optix

The laboratory is equipped with Explore Optix (ART), a pre-clinical optical imaging system, which allows to follow in vivo biodistribution and pharmacokinetic processes of fluorescence emitting probes.
