Promoting the Biomedical Cluster in FVG

CBM works to promote the Cluster for Molecular Biomedicine in Friuli Venezia Giulia, identified as an "innovation sector" under articolo 29 of legge regionale 26/2005. As such CBM initiates and encourages synergies between public and private organizations in order to develop the potential of the "smart health" cluster, starting from the fields of biomedicine, biotechnology and Bioinformatics (arti. 2 reg. law. 20/2015; art.15 LR n. 3/2015).

At the request of regional stakeholders, CBM has coordinated the work groups that led to identifying the 4 regional Technological Development Trajectories in S3 (Smart Specialisation Strategies) as part of the Smart Health Area of specialization:

  • Biomedical, in-vivo and in-vitro diagnostics
  • Medical informatics and bioinformatics
  • Innovative therapy
  • Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)

The Smart Health Cluster currently includes 91 private companies operating in the fields of biomedicine, biotechnology and Bioinformatics, which have indicated their interest in participating in the cluster, and 183 research, social and health institutions and research groups in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Cluster ALISEI (Advanced Life Science in Italy)

CBM is a member of the National Life Sciences Technology Cluster ALISEI (Advanced Life Science in Italy), together with the following members:

CBM is actively involved in national work groups, promoting regional BioHighTech strategies in S3.

National Cluster Smart Living Technologies

CBM is a member of the National Cluster Smart Living Technologies, whose interest are ICT systems for ambient living, home automation, Ambient Intelligence (AI), Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) with particular attention to wellbeing, comfort, social inclusion, home care, security and health.

The cluster wants to boost, through scientific and technologic excellence, the attractiveness of investments in developing and strategic processing systems.

CEBR - Council European BioRegion

CEBR is a network of biotechnology support professionals that support their local biocommunity through direct services including networking, incubation, partnering and cluster promotion.

It is the first network of its kind to bring together such organisations and Members will develop and implement new biotech support activities across Europe.

Health Tech Cluster Switzerland

CBM is partner of Health Tech Cluster Switzerland, a network of manufacturers, suppliers, research and training institutions, service providers and investors in the field of health technology. The cluster unites companies from the medical technology, pharma, biotechnology, diagnostics and healthcare industries in a mutually profitable way, thus increasing their added value.

The Italian Association of Technology Districts (ADITE)

The Italian Association of Technology Districts (ADITE) has been established in 2006 by 4 Italian Technological Districts

  • CBM - Cluster Smart Health of Friuli Venezia Giulia region
  • Fondazione Torino Wireless Foundation -  Regional Innovation Cluster on ICT and Multimedia
  • IMAST -Technological District of Polymer engineering
  • Veneto Nanotech - The nanotechnology district

The aim of ADITE is to better the capability of networking of the Technological Districts, there fore contributing to accelerate the technological innovation in the socio economic system.

Bronze Label Cluster Management

CBM has been recently awarded with the Bronze Label of the European Cluster Excellence Initiative (ECEI, The prestigious award goes to those Cluster management organizations that are benchmarked under the ESCA - European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis-benchmarking approach by one of the ESCA experts and demonstrate their interest in striving for excellence. CBM has undergone the benchmarking analysis last June and positively responded to the 36 indicators regarding the structure of the cluster, the cluster management and the governance of the cluster, financing of the cluster management, services provided by the cluster management, contacts and interaction within the cluster and achievements and recognition of the cluster.
